The Retail Council of Canada, a non-profit organization all retail formats across Canada, will present Annette Verschuren, president of Home Depot Canada and Expo Design Center, with its "Distinguished Canadian Retailer of the Year" award.
The award will presented to Verschuren on June 6 at the RCC's annual dinner and is given to a retailer who has consistently demonstrated community commitment and contributed positively to greater society.
"Annette Verschuren is an inspiring role model to other industry leaders and members of the Home Depot family," says Diane Brisebois, president and CEO of the RCC. “She is a true champion of continuous improvement, and her positive attitude motivates those around her."
"I'm honored to receive this award on behalf of my industry peers and
Retail Council of Canada," Verschuren said. "I have surrounded myself with gifted business people and owe a great deal of my success to them."
Since joining Home Depot in 1996, Verschuren has been a driving force behind the rapid expansion and success of Home Depot Canada, with 125 locations in 10 provinces.
Prior to joining Home Depot, Verschuren was president and co-owner of Michael's of Canada, the art supply and décor retailer, from 1993 to 1996. She is also the outgoing chair of Retail Council of Canada.
The Retail Council of Canada has more than 9,000 members representing all retail formats, including national and regional department stores, mass merchants, specialty chains, independent stores and online merchants.
