Safeway's Portland division president to retire

Safeway Inc. on Thursday said Lyle Waterman, president of the Portland division, is retiring after 46 years with Safeway. He will leave his division post on Oct. 9, but remain with the company on special assignment through the end of the year. He will be succeeded by Kelly Griffith, currently corporate senior vice president of produce and floral.

Waterman has led the Portland division since 2000. Griffith joined Safeway 25 years ago in the company's Seattle division. He joined the corporate retail operations team in 1999, and was promoted to vice president of retail operations in the company's Seattle division in 2001. He assumed his most recent duties in produce and floral in 2004.
