One of Georgia-Pacific's top building products executives will leave the company to take a position as president and CEO of South Carolina-based Bowater, the nation's largest newsprint maker.
David J. Paterson, 51, worked for the building and paper products giant for 19 years and most recently served as G-P's executive vp-building products.
G-P was acquired in December 2005 by privately held Koch Industries of Wichita, Kan. The $13.2 billion deal created the largest privately held company in the country.
At G-P, Paterson was responsible for the company's pulp and paperboard division, paper and bleached board division, and communication papers division.
Paterson begins his new position at Bowater on May 1. G-P does not have a replacement nor a timeline for replacing Paterson, according to Melodie Ruse, the senior manager of communications at G-P.
