Cost-U-Less' April comps slip

Warehouse club operator Cost-U-Less reported a 0.7% decrease in same-store sales for the four weeks ended April 30, compared to an increase of 6.3% in the prior-year period.
Comps and total sales for the past month were negatively impacted by the timing
of the Easter Holiday, the company stated, which last year fell in fiscal
March 2005. All Cost-U-Less locations close for at least one day during the
Easter holiday weekend, which is estimated to negatively impact April 2006
comps by approximately 3% to 4%.
Total sales for April slipped 0.2% to $16.3 million versus $16.4
million for the prior-year period. Total sales for the
17 weeks ended April 2 advanced by 2% to $71 million versus
$69.6 million for the corresponding period a year ago.
Cost-U-Less operates 11 stores in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
